Gabriel Martinelli's red card against Wolves on Thursday was Arsenal's fifth red card of the season.
Gabriel Martinelli was sent off bizarrely during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Wolves. The Brazilian forward was given two yellow cards at once for two fouls he committed in the space of a minute.
It was Arsenal’s fifth red card of the season and the fourth in 2022. adding on to a total of 15 red cards during Arteta’s stint.
Only Leicester City have committed fewer fouls than Arsenal in the league and yet the Gunners lead the red card chart.
According to the Premier League stats, the Gunners commit an average of 1.55 fouls per game. Of these, 96.9% result in a yellow card, and 5.7% a red – one in every 17 fouls is a red card.
What is frustrating is that the referees and VAR turn a blind eye when Arsenal are the victim.
The referees hesitate to follow the rule book when it’s against Arsenal, but are quick to react if they are culprit of any sort.
Mikel Arteta needs to seriously caution the players to be very careful when committing fouls since the refs are quick to reach their pockets for a card, playing with 10 men should not be a habit.
