Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been impressed for managing well his squad this season but a player has however sent a subtle request for more minutes from him.
Arsenal’s second-choice goalkeeper, Matt Turner, has opened up about his time at the Emirates Stadium and hinted at wanting more minutes on the pitch from manager Mikel Arteta. Turner, who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022 from New England Revolution, has been playing second fiddle to Aaron Ramsdale in the Premier League this season.
Despite not getting as much game time as he would like, Turner remains positive and focused on improving his game. He believes that he and Ramsdale have become better goalkeepers by challenging each other in training.
“I show up to training with the right mentality. I work really, really hard to improve in the areas I need to. I’m trying to compete to get onto the field,” Turner told CBS Sport.
“I think Aaron Ramsdale and I have become better goalkeepers from challenging each other. Obviously, he is having a great season and is making big saves in big moments. I can’t really complain with where I stand but I am working really, really hard.”
Turner also spoke about his relationship with Ramsdale and how they push each other to be better.
“I hold him accountable and he holds me accountable. We’ve been developing a close relationship which has pushed us both forward.”
