West Ham United 2-2 Arsenal: How it happened

Arsenal received another big obstacle in their quest to win the Premier League after they made a 2-2 draw with West Ham United. Here is how it happened.

Arsenal have today made a 2-2 draw in their match against West Ham United at the London Stadium. The game saw Arsenal take an early lead, but West Ham fought back to level the scores.

The first goal of the game came in just seven minutes, as Arsenal scored a stunning team goal. They worked their way into the penalty area, with Ben White squaring for Gabriel Jesus who did the rest. Just three minutes later, Arsenal doubled their lead through Martin Odegaard who volleyed home Gabriel Martinelli’s cross.

West Ham were not deterred and continued to push forward. Their efforts paid off in the 33rd minute when Said Benrahma scored from the penalty spot after Gabriel fouled Lucas Paqueta. This lifted the spirits of the home team and they continued to press forward.

The second half saw West Ham come out strong and they were rewarded in the 54th minute when Jarrod Bowen sneaked in behind the Arsenal defence to lash home from Thilo Kehrer’s lobbed pass. This leveled the scores at 2-2.

Arsenal had a chance to take back the lead just two minutes before West Ham’s equalizer when Michail Antonio was adjudged to have handled in his own box. However, Bukayo Saka sent his penalty high and wide of the West Ham goal.

The game ended with both teams sharing points, which sees Arsenal remain at the top of Premier League table with 74 points after 31 games but are closely followed by second-placed Manchester City which has 70 points plus a game in hand.

Arsenal will be disappointed not to have taken all three points from this game, but credit must go to West Ham for their fighting spirit and determination. The result also highlights how competitive this season’s Premier League has been, with no team able to dominate consistently.

Arsenal will now turn their attention to their next game against Southampton, which promises to be another tough test for the league leaders. They will need to be at their best if they are to maintain their position at the top of the table and secure their first Premier League title since 2004.
