Arsenal reportedly agrees new deal with its star that wanted to leave

Arsenal have already begun plans for next season as they've begun tying down their star players on long-term contracts and it looks like they have been successful on one front.

Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson is set to agree on a new contract with the club, according to reports by The Athletic. The expected new deal comes as a recognition of the 23-year-old’s importance to the squad as Arsenal prepares to return to the Champions League next season.

Negotiations are still ongoing, but it is expected that Nelson will sign an initial four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. This news will come as a relief to Arsenal fans who have been impressed by Nelson’s performances this season.

Despite only making a few sub appearances in the Premier League this season, Nelson has managed to score three goals and make two assists in his limited game time. His performances have caught the eye of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who sees him as an important member of the squad going forward.

Arsenal was in a fierce title race with Manchester City in their bid to win the 2022/23 Premier League title. However, a defeat against Nottingham Forest in their 37th game week saw them lose the trophy to The Citizens. Currently, Arsenal has 81 points while Manchester City has 89 points. Manchester City has already been crowned this year’s Premier League champions even though there is still one more game left in the season.

Despite not winning the league title, Arsenal can take heart from their performances this season. They led the league table for ten months and were only pipped at the post by Manchester City in the final few weeks of the season.

Nelson’s new contract is just one part of Arsenal’s plans for next season. The club is looking to strengthen its squad over the summer and mount another challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Overall, it looks like exciting times are ahead for Arsenal fans as they prepare for another shot at glory next season. With Reiss Nelson set to play an important role in their plans, there is plenty of reason for optimism at The Emirates.
