Arsenal is currently trying to renew the contract of William Saliba in this summer transfer window and a report has revealed why the gunners are finding it hard.
Arsenal Football Club is reportedly ready to offer William Saliba a £120k-a-week contract, but negotiations have hit a snag due to the demands being made by the player’s representatives. According to The Sun, the club is currently nowhere near reaching an agreement with Saliba’s representatives and are working overtime to reach a compromise.
Saliba, who started the first 27 Premier League games of Arsenal in the 2022/23 season before he got injured and spent the rest of the season on the sidelines, has been identified as a key player for Arsenal’s future success. The French defender joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 for a fee of £27m but was immediately loaned back to his former club for the 2019/20 season.
The Gunners were in a fierce title race with Manchester City in a bid to win the 2022/23 Premier League title. However, a defeat against Nottingham Forest in their 37th game week saw them lose the trophy to The Citizens. Arsenal ended the season with 84 points while Manchester City finished with 89 points. Manchester City are this year’s Premier League Champions, and Arsenal will have to settle for second place even though they had led the league table for ten months this season.
Despite missing out on winning the Premier League title, Arsenal is keen on building a team that can challenge for major honours in future seasons. Saliba is seen as an integral part of this plan and has been offered a lucrative contract extension by Arsenal.
However, negotiations have hit a snag due to demands being made by Saliba’s representatives. The club is reportedly shocked by these demands and is working hard to find common ground with Saliba’s camp.
It remains unclear what exactly these demands are, but it is believed that they are related to salary and bonuses. Saliba’s representatives are said to be seeking more than what Arsenal is currently offering, which has led to a stalemate in negotiations.
Arsenal will be hoping to resolve this issue quickly as they look to build a team capable of challenging for major honours in the future. Saliba is seen as a key player in this plan, and the club will be keen to secure his long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.

I find the info of Saliba signing provided is so short of facts that I don't find it informative at all. Why are we not told the important bits like the length of the contract, the pay as he had scoffed at £120,000 per week the club was offering him. Stop treating us like mugs. We read everything written about our players.
The Arsenal hierarchy opened the Pandora's box by agreeing to Saka's demand of almost 350k/week, making him possibly the highest-paid 21 years old in world football, but not recognising the need of giving equal importance to other promising young gunners. After Saka's preposterous contract, now they have to give equally good contract to Saliba & then to Odegaard & others as well. Wage bill will keep on rising. Just hope that that bill will be compensated by some trophies.
