Arteta reveals what still hurts him over the last few weeks

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has opened up publicly about what has been hurting him over the last few weeks.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has opened up about the pain he still feels after missing out on the Premier League title in the 2022/23 season. The Gunners were in a fierce title race with Manchester City, but a defeat against Nottingham Forest in their 37th game week saw them lose the trophy to The Citizens. Arsenal ended the season with 84 points while Manchester City finished with 89 points, making them this year’s Premier League champions.

Arteta spoke to Marca as revealed by The Telegraph about his disappointment, saying, “To this day, it still hurts me deeply, not having won the Premier (League) after spending 10 months fighting with City. But that’s the sport.” Despite this pain, Arteta acknowledged that what his young team achieved was worthwhile and impressive.

The Arsenal manager also reflected on some of the challenges his team faced during the season. He pointed to three draws in a row against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton as being particularly damaging. Additionally, injuries to key players made things more difficult for Arsenal.

“When we had the full team, we were consistent,” Arteta said. “As soon as problems came, it didn’t reach us. And then our rival was the best team in the world, the best squad in the world, the best coach in the world. We had no choice but to accept it and shake hands with the champion.”

Despite missing out on this year’s Premier League title, Arteta remains optimistic about Arsenal’s future. He believes that his young team has shown great potential and will continue to improve over time.

It’s clear that Arteta is a passionate and dedicated manager who cares deeply about his team’s success. While missing out on a major trophy is undoubtedly painful for him and his players, he remains focused on building a strong foundation for future success.

As Arsenal looks ahead to next season and beyond, fans can take comfort in knowing that they have a manager who is committed to their team’s success and who will stop at nothing to achieve it. With Arteta at the helm, the Gunners are sure to continue making strides towards greatness.
