Arteta speaks out on Lucas Torreira’s injury in game against Portsmouth

Lucas Torreira got subbed off in Arsenal's game against Portsmouth last night and Mikel Arteta has spoken out on the injury he sustained.

Lucas Torreira returned to the Arsenal starting eleven in last night’s 0-2 win over Portsmouth but he however played only a few minutes in that game as he was stretched off after a big challenge by James Bolton. The Arsenal fans were disappointed to see him down in pain as this was a big chance for him to secure a regular starting position but he however couldn’t finish the game and Mikel Arteta has spoken out on this situation.

Lucas Torreira has in the last few weeks failed to get a regular spot in the Arsenal starting eleven since Mikel Arteta has decided to only go with players that are very great with possession and after having missed a UEFA Europa League game due to sickness, this was a huge game for the Uruguayan international as he needed to convince the boss that he deserves more starts in the Premier League.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has revealed that Lucas Torreira was in so much pain but he however confirmed that he can’t give a definite answer on the extent of the injury as a few assessments will need to be done.

“He was in a lot of pain. He is in a brace at the moment, he will be assessed in the next few days and we will know more then.” Arteta told Arsenal’s official website.

“I don’t know if it’s the bone or ligaments, we don’t know yet.”

The gunners have struggled with many injuries since Mikel Arteta got appointed as the new head coach of Arsenal and he will be hoping that Lucas Torreira isn’t out for a long time since they’ll need most of their senior players if they are to make a push for a UEFA Champions League spot in the last two months of the season.
