Mikel Arteta delivers devastating news about Bernd Leno’s injury

Bernd Leno was stretched off the pitch in Arsenal's game against Brighton & Hove Albion and Arteta has provided an update on the injury.

The Premier League restarted on Wednesday and Arsenal have so far played two games but they have however been so unlucky as many of their players are getting injured. Bernd Leno has become the latest player to go to the treatment table after picking up an injury in Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The gunners were today welcomed at the American Express Community Stadium and Mikel Arteta selected Leno as his goalkeeper for the day but it however turned out to be a bad day for the German international as he went down in the first half after trying to pick the ball while underpressure from Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Maupay.

There has been a big debate about whether there was contact from Maupay that led to Bernd Leno getting an injury but the Arsenal fans are however devastated about the possibility of losing their first choice goalkeeper for a long time. Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the injury confirming that it affected Leno’s knee and also spoke out on whether Maupay was responsible for it.

“I believe that no player has the intention to hurt anybody and I believe in this case it’s exactly the same, it was unfortunate.” Arteta told Arsenal Player.

“Bernd’s injury doesn’t look good and we will have to assess him probably tomorrow, but it can happen on a football pitch. It’s a knee injury, I think he had a hyperextension of the knee and we have to assess the damage.”

The Arsenal boss did not reveal the time that Leno will spend on the sidelines but it could be a year since players that get knee injuries always have to spend six to nine months in rehabilitation and the player himself was frustrated as he even had a strong verbal conversation with Brighton’s Maupay when he was getting stretched off the pitch.
