BREAKING: Arsenal reach agreement with Ajax for the signing of Jurrien Timber
Arsenal have reached an agreement with Ajax for the signing of Jurrien Timber in this summer transfer window and this will bring happiness to gooners.
Arsenal and Ajax are currently in negotiations for the transfer of Jurriën Timber, with a deal expected to be agreed for around €40m-€45m. The 22-year-old defender has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Arsenal on a contract until 2028, with an annual salary of €8m, double his current salary at Ajax.
Timber is primarily a centre back but can also play as a right back, which would be a valuable asset for Mikel Arteta’s squad. The young Dutchman has been on Arsenal’s radar for weeks, and it seems that he is keen to make the move to the Premier League.
Arsenal had been in a fierce title race with Manchester City in the 2022/23 season, but their hopes were dashed when they suffered a defeat against Nottingham Forest in their 37th game week. This loss saw them lose out on the trophy to Manchester City, who finished the season with 89 points compared to Arsenal’s 84 points. Despite leading the league table for 10 months this season, Arsenal will have to settle for second place.
The addition of Timber to Arsenal’s squad could help them mount another title challenge next season. With his versatility and defensive prowess, he could provide much-needed depth and quality to Arteta’s backline. However, negotiations between Arsenal and Ajax are said to be slow-moving, with both clubs still some way apart in terms of transfer fee.
According to Telegraaf, the expectation is that Arsenal and Ajax will eventually reach an agreement around €45M for Timber. It remains to be seen whether this figure will be acceptable to both clubs, but it seems that Timber is determined to make the move happen.
If the transfer does go through, Timber will join fellow Dutchman and former Ajax teammate Kieran Tierney at Arsenal. The two players could form a formidable partnership on either side of Arteta’s defence.
Overall, the potential signing of Jurriën Timber would be a significant boost for Arsenal as they look to challenge for the Premier League title once again. With negotiations ongoing, fans will be eagerly awaiting news of any developments in the coming weeks.
