Arsenal left back Nuno Tavares has bid farewell to the club as he joins Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan. The 23-year-old Portuguese defender had joined Arsenal from Benfica in July 2021 and made 28 appearances for the Gunners in his first season, scoring once and providing two assists.

Tavares’ departure comes after a successful loan spell at Ligue 1 side Marseille last season, where he made 39 appearances across all competitions and found the back of the net six times. The attacking left-sided full-back has shown promise with his ability to contribute offensively, and his debut for Arsenal also saw him score a goal in a pre-season friendly against Rangers.

The decision to send Tavares out on loan suggests that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta sees value in giving him more playing time and experience before potentially integrating him into the first team. Nottingham Forest, who currently compete in the Premier League, will provide Tavares with an opportunity to further develop his skills and adapt to the physicality of English football.

The terms of Tavares’ loan deal include a £1 million loan fee for Nottingham Forest, along with a buy option clause worth £12 million. Additionally, there are £3 million worth of add-ons included in the agreement. This indicates that Forest have faith in Tavares’ potential and may consider making his move permanent if he impresses during his time at the club.

Arsenal’s official statement regarding Tavares’ departure expressed their well wishes for the young defender’s upcoming season with Nottingham Forest. It is clear that they believe this loan move will be beneficial for his development as he continues to grow as a player.

As Arsenal look to strengthen their squad for the season, it remains to be seen how Tavares’ absence will impact their left-back options. However, this move provides an opportunity for other players within the squad to step up and fill the void left by Tavares.

Overall, Nuno Tavares’ loan move to Nottingham Forest presents an exciting opportunity for the young left back to gain valuable experience and continue his development as a player. Arsenal will be closely monitoring his progress, and if he impresses, they may consider bringing him back into the fold in the future.
