Arsenal centre back William Saliba has recently spoken out about how his injury affected Arsenal’s chances of winning last season’s Premier League trophy. In an interview with Téléfoot, Saliba expressed his belief that without his injury, Arsenal could have been champions.

Saliba stated, “Yeah, it’s clear. Without my injury, Arsenal could have been champions.” He acknowledged the impact of his absence during the crucial final sprint of the season. Despite this setback, Saliba quickly shifted his focus onto the current season, expressing optimism for the team’s future success. He said, “It’s a new season with new ambitions and I hope that we can do even better.”

Last season, Arsenal found themselves in a fierce title race with Manchester City as they aimed to secure the 2022/23 Premier League title. However, their hopes were dashed when they suffered a defeat against Nottingham Forest in their 37th game week. This loss ultimately cost them the trophy as Manchester City finished with 89 points compared to Arsenal’s 84 points.

Despite leading the league table for an impressive 10 months during the season, Arsenal had to settle for second place. Manchester City emerged as this year’s Premier League champions.

As for their current campaign, Arsenal currently sits in fifth position on the Premier League table with 14 points. Their most recent match was a Carabao Cup third-round game against Brentford which ended in a 1-0 victory for Arsenal, securing their progression to the next round.

Looking ahead, Arsenal’s next challenge will be an away game against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday. The team will undoubtedly be aiming to continue their positive momentum and climb up the league table.
