Arsenal make a decision on selling Aaron Ramsdale in the January transfer window
Aaron Ramsdale’s hopes of securing a move away from Arsenal in the January transfer window have suffered a setback. According to a report by The Mirror, the Gunners have rejected an approach for the goalkeeper, denting his chances of finding regular first-team football elsewhere.
Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United a few years back for a reported fee of around £24 million. The 23-year-old was brought in as competition for Bernd Leno, but it seems that he has fallen down the pecking order as well at the Emirates Stadium.
The arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford has further complicated Ramsdale’s situation. Raya, who impressed for the Bees in their was signed with an option to buy. Since making his debut against Everton in September, the Spanish shot-stopper has been preferred over Ramsdale in every Premier League and Champions League fixture he has been eligible for.
This rejection from Arsenal is likely to be a blow to Ramsdale, who would have been hoping to secure regular game time elsewhere in order to boost his chances of making the England squad for the upcoming Euros. With Jordan Pickford currently the undisputed number one choice for the national team, Ramsdale needs to be playing regularly to stake his claim for a place in Gareth Southgate’s plans.
However, it remains to be seen whether Ramsdale will be content with a backup role at Arsenal or if he will push for a move away in search of more playing time. The January transfer window could present an opportunity for him to secure a move to another club, where he can prove his worth and reignite his ambitions of representing England on the international stage.
