Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that he hopes defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will remain at the Emirates Stadium despite reported interest from German giants Bayern Munich.

“I really want him to stay. I value the player a lot. He’s loved and respected by everybody at the club. He’s at the level we need to make an impact on the team. He’s going to be with us,” Arteta told the Media.

Tomiyasu, who joined Arsenal from Bologna in the summer transfer window, has been impressive for the Gunners this season. The Japanese international has made 10 appearances in the Premier League, helping Arsenal to their current third-place position on the table with 27 points.

The 25-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Bayern Munich reportedly eyeing a January move for Tomiyasu as they look to bolster their defensive options.

However, Arteta’s comments make it clear that he sees Tomiyasu as an integral part of his plans for Arsenal and is keen for him to remain at the club.

It remains to be seen whether Bayern will make a formal approach for Tomiyasu in the upcoming transfer window, but for now, it seems that Arteta is determined to keep hold of one of his key players.
