Arsenal Legend Says That Bernd Leno’s Quality Is Unknown
Arsenal fans have criticized Unai Emery for not starting Bernd Leno this season but gunners legend Martin Keown says that he doesn’t know how good the German goalkeeper is!
Arsenal signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window and everyone thought that he was going to be Unai Emery’s first choice goalkeeper this season since its him who initiated his signing.
Bernd Leno has not been on the starting eleven of Arsenal in its first four Premier League matches and the fans are however desperate to see him in action because they aren’t happy with Petr Cech who has failed to get a clean sheet yet this season.
Arsenal’s new boss Unai Emery has told his players to be playing from the back and this requires a goalkeeper to also be involved because he starts the moves, but it’s been clear that this is very hard for Petr Cech because he is used to the old style of kicking the ball forward. Arsenal legend Martin Keown says that he has an idea on why Bernd Leno has been benched by Unai Emery while writing in his Daily Mail column;
“If you look at the statistics for goalkeepers in Europe, Leno excels in his distribution but is not the best when it comes to the shots he is expected to stop.”
“The German was not in their World Cup squad and hasn’t been called up for this international break. How good is he? We’re not too sure yet.”
According to the Arsenal legend, the fans might be disappointed with Unai Emery for not starting Bernd Leno yet they aren’t sure about his performance because the only good stat they know about him is that he is capable of playing from the back but when it comes making saves or getting the ball when a cross is made into his box, Petr Cech might be better than him.
Bernd Leno will finally be on the starting eleven for the first time this season because Arsenal begins its Europa League and Carabao Cup campaigns this month.
