The gunners are trying to revamp their back line with young defenders and they have started by completing the signing of highly rated Saint-Etienne centre back William Saliba. Arsenal has been linked with the 18-year-old for weeks but it looks like the saga has finally come to an end.

The gunners were set to complete the signing of William Saliba a week ago but Tottenham Hotspur decided to try to hijack this deal from Arsenal since they might lose some of their centre backs in this and the upcoming transfer windows. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur then made the same offer to Saint-Etienne and then the French club made William Saliba choose on which club that he wants to join and fortunately for the gooners, he chose them.

RMC SPORT Journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi confirmed last night that the gunners have finally reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne for the signing of William Saliba. Even though it was earlier reported that Arsenal would pay more to sign William Saliba because of Tottenham’s interest, the report claims that the gunners will be paying €29million including add-ons to Saint-Etienne instead of the earlier claimed €40million.

William Saliba will however be sent back to Saint-Etienne on loan for the upcoming season since it’s a request from the player himself and the club but he will however have his medical on Tuesday and sign the contract with the deal then getting announced later on. Saliba, 18, is a highly rated centre back that has the potential to become a world-class defender and the gunners will definitely be glad that they have secured his signature.
