Arsenal reportedly receive bad news in their pursuit of Declan Rice in the summer
It is an open secret that Arsenal is really interested in West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice and a report has revealed that the gunners have received bad news in their pursuit of the player.
Manchester United are reportedly set to rival Arsenal in the race to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice this summer. The Red Devils are said to be keen on bringing the England international to Old Trafford as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
Arsenal have been leading the race for Rice and are still regarded as his likeliest destination, with the Gunners having been laying the groundwork before making a bid, according to a report by The Guardian. However, Manchester United’s interest in the 24-year-old could complicate matters for Arsenal.
The Gunners are currently second on the 2022/23 Premier League table with 81 points after 35 games, but they are closely following first-placed Manchester City, who have 82 points plus one game in hand. Arsenal’s return to the UEFA Champions League next season could help them attract Rice, who is said to be keen on playing in Europe’s premier club competition.
Rice has been one of West Ham’s standout performers this season and has attracted interest from several top clubs across Europe. The midfielder has made 34 appearances for the Hammers this season in the league, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen on signing Rice and sees him as a long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season. The Gunners have already started planning for next season and are looking to strengthen their squad in several areas.
It remains to be seen which club will win the race for Rice’s signature, but it is clear that both Manchester United and Arsenal are keen on signing the midfielder. West Ham are likely to demand a high transfer fee for Rice, who is under contract until 2024, but the player’s desire to play in the Champions League could sway his decision.
