Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has expressed his thoughts on what the team needs to do in order to prepare for their upcoming participation in the UEFA Champions League. The 21-year-old believes that Arsenal should be ready for both the best and worst teams they will face in the competition.

Martinelli’s comments come after Arsenal’s intense title race with Manchester City in the 2022/23 Premier League season. The Gunners were in contention for the title until their defeat against Nottingham Forest in the 37th game week, which ultimately saw them lose out to Manchester City. Despite leading the league table for 10 months, Arsenal had to settle for second place with 84 points, while Manchester City claimed the Premier League trophy with 89 points.

Looking ahead to next season, Martinelli believes that Arsenal must be prepared for a new challenge. He emphasizes the importance of squad depth, especially considering the number of games they will have to play throughout the season. With their participation in the Champions League, Arsenal will face tougher opponents and will need a strong squad to compete at that level.

“I think we need to prepare ourselves for the worst, we need to prepare ourselves for the best teams and the whole team is doing that.”said 21 year old Martinelli as per The Metro.

“I think we are ready for a new challenge… It’s so important [our squad depth] because we have too many games in the season and it’s going to be tough again. We are ready to go and it’s good to have so many options.”

In light of this, Arsenal has been active in the summer transfer window. They have already completed three signings so far. The Gunners secured the services of 24-year-old attacking midfielder Kai Havertz from Chelsea for a fee of £65 million. Havertz’s arrival adds more firepower to Arsenal’s attacking options.

Additionally, Arsenal bolstered their defense with the signing of 22-year-old defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax. The deal was worth €40 million plus €5 million add-ons, highlighting Arsenal’s commitment to strengthening their backline.

The most significant signing for Arsenal this summer is arguably that of Declan Rice from West Ham United. The Gunners broke a British transfer record by acquiring Rice for a staggering £105 million. This move demonstrates Arsenal’s ambition and desire to compete at the highest level.

With these signings, Arsenal is showing their determination to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title and performing well in the Champions League. The addition of Havertz, Timber, and Rice provides manager Mikel Arteta with more options and depth in his squad, which will be crucial in navigating a demanding season.

As Arsenal prepares for their long-awaited return to the Champions League, Martinelli’s words reflect the team’s mindset. They are ready to face any challenge that comes their way and are confident in their ability to compete against the best teams in Europe. With a strengthened squad and a hunger for success, Arsenal fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead.
