Arteta reveals the player he was unhappy with until the Nottingham Forest game
Arsenal faced Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and Mikel Arteta has revealed the player he was unhappy with.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his satisfaction with Gabriel Martinelli’s performance in the Gunners’ 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest, stating that his previous unhappiness with the winger has now ended. Arteta praised Martinelli’s energy and willingness to take chances on the pitch.
In a post-match interview with The Metro UK, Arteta highlighted Martinelli’s contribution to the team and how it differed from his performance in a friendly game against Monaco two weeks ago. He stated, “That’s Martinelli– he needs to be alive, he needs to be energetic, he needs to take chances and go for it.”
Arteta specifically mentioned an incident during the match against Monaco where Martinelli gave away possession but immediately tracked back to regain control of the ball. This display of determination and defensive effort impressed Arteta and marked a turning point in his opinion of the young winger.
“When Martinelli is doing that backwards and then forwards, he’s one of the best players and one of the most dangerous today,” said Arteta. “When he’s playing a different rhythm, no.”
Martinelli’s impact was evident in Arsenal’s victory over Nottingham Forest. The Gunners took an early lead in the 26th minute when Eddie Nketiah scored from close range after an impressive turn and pass from Martinelli. This goal broke the deadlock and set Arsenal on their path to victory.
Bukayo Saka further extended Arsenal’s lead in the 32nd minute with a stunning strike from just outside the box. Forest managed to pull one back in the 82nd minute through Taiwo Awoniyi, but Arsenal held on for a well-deserved win.
This victory marks Arsenal as one of the clubs that have won their first Premier League game of the season, providing a positive start for Arteta’s side.
Martinelli’s performance against Nottingham Forest showcased his potential as a key player for Arsenal. His energy, willingness to take risks, and defensive efforts impressed Arteta, who had previously expressed his dissatisfaction with the winger’s performance. This turnaround in Arteta’s opinion highlights Martinelli’s growth and development as a player.
As Arsenal progresses through the season, Martinelli’s contributions will be crucial in their pursuit of success. With Arteta’s faith restored in the young winger, fans can expect to see more exciting performances from Martinelli in the future.
