Arsenal legend Ian Wright has offered his insights on the type of signings he believes Mikel Arteta should prioritize this summer transfer window. While acknowledging the need for a center forward, Wright believes Arsenal can cope with the lack of a traditional out-and-out striker.
“Everyone’s talked about Arsenal’s need to sign a center forward,” Wright told the media, “but as difficult as it’s been, we can deal with the hit of not having that out-and-out center forward.”
Instead, Wright emphasizes the importance of strengthening other areas of the squad, particularly in terms of depth and competition for starting places. “I think we need cover for Bukayo Saka,” he stated, “we need cover for William Saliba, and another midfielder probably.”
He points to Manchester City’s success in bringing in quality players as a benchmark for Arsenal’s aspirations. “You look at what Manchester City are capable of doing in respect of bringing players in,” Wright said. “You have to have somebody to come in who can challenge William Saliba for his position, because we need to strengthen the whole squad – look at our bench.”
Wright’s advice highlights the need for a more robust and competitive Arsenal squad, capable of challenging for titles across multiple competitions. By addressing specific areas like depth at wide areas, center-back, and midfield, Arsenal can ensure they have the necessary resources to compete with the best in the Premier League and beyond.
