Arsenal’s promising star confirms his departure from the Emirates Stadium
The summer transfer window has not yet officially opened but things have started moving already as Arsenal’s promising young star has confirmed his departure from the club.
After a loan spell at Luton Town in the recently concluded season, 24-year-old midfielder Sambi Lokonga has confirmed his departure from Arsenal. In an interview with VOOsport, Lokonga stated, “I think that [my time at Arsenal] is slowly coming to the end. I had a discussion with the club and what was said is that the best solution for me was to leave.”
Lokonga, who joined Arsenal in 2021, struggled to find consistent playing time under Mikel Arteta. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, he was unable to secure a regular starting position, leading to his loan move to Luton Town.
While the Belgian midfielder had a year remaining on his contract, with a one-year option, he acknowledged that his future lies elsewhere. “I have a one-year contract plus a one-year option, so now it’s up to the club and my agent to find the best solution,” he said.
This departure marks the end of Lokonga’s time with Arsenal, a period that saw him contribute to the club’s success in the 2023/24 season but ultimately failed to fulfill his full potential at the Emirates. As Lokonga moves on to a new chapter in his career, he will be hoping to find a club where he can establish himself as a key player and realize his full potential.
