Arsenal travelled to Portugal for their encounter with Sporting Lisbon who were hoping to get a win against the gunners when at home because they know how it will be very tough for them to get a win at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal fans were worried that the gunners might lose to Sporting Lisbon today because it is one of the biggest clubs in the Primeira Liga but it seems Unai Emery had a far better approach to the game than the home side. Arsenal was in control of the match through out the 90 minutes even though Sporting Lisbon did try attacking them on some occasions. The gunners won the match 1 nil thanks to a goal by Danny Welbeck.

STATS ABOUT ARSENAL’S WIN AGAINST SPORTING LISBON ( COURTESY OF OPTA STATS)

  • Arsenal recorded their 11th successive win in all competitions; their best run of wins since October 2007 (12 in a row).
  • This was Arsenal’s first-ever away win in Portugal after previously failing to come away victorious in six European visits there (D3 L3).
  • 23 of Arsenal’s 33 goals in all competitions this season have come in the second half of matches (70 per cent).
  • Arsenal have won 11 competitive matches this season – of all Premier League clubs, only Manchester City can equal this tally (also 11).

The Arsenal fans are happy with the work which Unai Emery is doing at the Emirates Stadium because he was a coach who wasn’t well-known even though he did coach Paris Saint Germain before he stepped down. But it seems like Arsenal was the perfect club for him because he has managed to get the support of most of the Arsenal fans in a few months he has been with them.

I just love writing and football so much ever since the 2000's when football got popular in our country. I am a self esteemed person who believes is am always right.
