REVEALED: Why Arteta will bench David Raya in Arsenal’s next game
Arsenal’s goalkeeper situation has taken an interesting turn ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford. Despite being available for selection when the two sides met in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, David Raya will not be able to face his parent club due to Premier League rules.
Raya, who is on loan from Brentford, put in an impressive performance in the Carabao Cup fixture, helping Arsenal secure a 2-0 victory. However, Premier League regulations state that loaned players cannot feature against their parent clubs in the competition. As a result, Raya will have to sit out this crucial encounter.
This absence opens the door for Aaron Ramsdale to make a return to Arsenal’s Premier League starting XI. Ramsdale, who was the team’s previous number one, last featured in a league game during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Manchester United on September 3. Since then, Raya has taken over the starting role and impressed with his performances.
Arsenal currently sit in 3rd position on the Premier League table with 27 points in the 2023/24 campaign.
The upcoming clash against Brentford will be a challenging test for Arsenal, as the side has been performing admirably in the Premier League this season. With Raya unavailable, Ramsdale will have an opportunity to prove himself once again and stake his claim for the starting goalkeeper position.
Fans will be eager to see how Ramsdale performs and whether he can replicate his early-season form. The match against Brentford will be a crucial one for Arsenal as they aim to maintain their position near the top of the table.
